Yesterday was the World Energy Savings Day, and today’s project demonstrates how developing an eco-friendly house is not at odds with good design and contained budget. Faulkner Architects are responsible for this project.
Located in Oakland Hills, Miner Road sits on nearly eight hectares of land with lush nature and exceptional climate and features upgraded mechanical, insulation, and glazing systems.
The house opens to the landscape through large windows. The sensation of continuity between interior and exterior is furthered reinforced by the cantilevered roof. To make the most of natural resources, the house is equipped with a system that collects rainwater and solar panels, which supply it with the energy it needs. A home consistent with its inhabitants’ values.
The range of materials used is limited. The wood takes a great protagonism in different tonalities, and the installation in slats mimics the growth pattern of trees, enhancing the connection with the exterior again. The white paint used on some walls contributes to the cohesion of the design. On the outside, covering the volume, the Cor-ten steel panels stand out. It is a durable material that requires almost no maintenance, ages beautifully, and with its variety of shades of gray, brown, and copper, helps the construction to blend in with the surroundings
The result is a vast space, with extraordinary luminosity, in direct contact with nature that creates a sense of absolute freedom and connection to the environment. Follow them @faulknerarchitect
