Real luxe is not shown off. The design of this apartment in the Saint-Sulpice district of Paris is the work of Jean Charles Tomas. The interior designer is known for its elegant spaces nurtured with handcrafted elements, noble materials, bespoke furniture, and design pieces selected with care. The space is part of a Haussmann style building – end of the 19th century-. Through a monochromatic option with subtle touches of color in the complements, the Saint-Sulpice apartment exudes sober modernity in which austerity and ornament act as complementary categories. A combination that covers both the history of the place and the most modern design solutions.
The moldings on the walls and the marble fireplace recall the origin of the house. The dark velvet upholstery of the custom-made bench contrasts with the ochre velvet of the chairs, contributing to the composition of a serene and restrained elegant ambiance. The sophisticated Apparatus light fixtures and the ceiling lamp, designed by Lindsey Adelman, transport us immediately to NY. The matte marble in the main bathroom is the icing on the cake of a bold, confident project.
Jean Charles Tomas defines his project as “a juxtaposition of lush materiality with sleek, edited lines” in which “architectural details give an air of improvised sophistication and effortless luxury.” We couldn’t agree more.
